09/12 – 4:30 PM Boys Soccer FinalSaginaw Swan Valley 1Alma 1
Alma’s Giovanni Polini scored with 17 minutes left in the game as the Panthers tied with the Saginaw Swan Valley soccer team 1-1 on Friday.
After Collin Dole scored in the 55th minute for Swan Valley, Alma came back to tie just eight minutes later as Josh Morey’s through ball to Polini led to a goal.
“You always talk about responding after a change of leads like that,” Alma coach Nick O’Neill said. “They did a great job of not getting their heads down and staying in the game.
“We did a great job of trying to limit their high-quality scoring chances. They broke us down a few times, but for the most part our defenders did a good job of staying in front of the ball.”
Both teams were dealing with shorter benches Friday, and some light rain added another element to deal with. Though both teams played evenly, Swan Valley coach Jamie Dole was disappointed with the final result.
“This was one that got away from us,” Dole said. “Both teams played well, but I thought we outplayed them, to a certain extent. They’re a good team, but we felt like we should have had this one. Letting that tying goal in was disappointing.”
Alma visits Hemlock on Monday, while Swan Valley visits Essexville Garber on Wednesday.
