For the second straight season, Saginaw Swan Valley has football clinched its playoff spot in Week 9.

After clinging to a 7-0 first half lead on Friday, the Vikings (6-3) scored 21 points in the third quarter to shut down Yale 34-0.

Big plays were the key to the Swan Valley offense, with quarterback Alex Friescompleting three passes for three touchdowns. He delivered an 82-yard strike toTrey Cheney and a 65 yard pass to Cameron Toth, while adding another to Terryon Liddell.

Emmett Boehler ran the ball 13 times for 117 yards, while John Espinosa had three carries for 97 yards and a score.

“John got his number called, and responded with some nice carries,” said Gavenda, whose team awaits their playoff assignment on Sunday.

Gavenda added that his team is playing responsible football at the right time, and he looks forward to whatever awaits them in the postseason.

“Our confidence has always been high,” Gavenda said. “We know we’re a good team, a talented team … If we can eliminate mistakes, we’re going to be a hard out.

“We know we’ll be an underdog at 6-3, but I think we’re one of the better 6-3 teams out there.”
