Kathryn Louks-Seccond Grade

Welcome to Second Grade!!!  My name is Kathryn Louks.  I have been a teacher at Havens for 14 years.  I am a graduate of Saginaw Valley College and I completed my extra class work at Michigan State University.  I began my teaching career as a fourth grade teacher in the St. Charles School District.  I went home to raise my three daughters, but continued to substitute when it was convenient and I was needed.  Our daughters graduated from Swan Valley Schools, so as they became involved in school, I began to substitute for Swan Valley Schools.  I missed being involved with young learners as my daughters grew, and was able to return to teaching in the Swan Valley District.  I have felt it an honor and priviledge to work with a fantastic staff of educators!!

I enjoy reading, watching movies, and playing tennis with my husband. I love  cooking and spending time with family and friends.  I really love the adventure of traveling to new places, seeing new things, and relating my travels to the history of the place.

My husband David is a research chemist at Dow Chemical.  My daughter Carrie has a degree in finance, but is currently a stay at home mom with her husband Brian and my two grandchildren, Tyler and Lauren, in Ohio.  We presently have 2 daughters in Chicago.  Cheryl is a mechanical engineer for an energy firm, and Christa recently graduated from DuPaul University with a masters in Digital Media and is working for Fuzzy Math at the present.  Swan Valley Schools gave our daughters great support in education and character development.  I try my best to help my students be the “Best they can be” now and in the future!!!

I believe teachers can only be effective with parental support!!  Please feel free to call, e-mail, or join us in the classroom! Also, feel free to make comments or give suggestions that you think will help your child in their emotional and educational needs.
